Mayor of The Hague, Mr. Jan van Zanen hosts yearly Diplomatic Corps reception, under the aegis of “working together towards a peaceful and just world”

The Mayor of The Hague, Mr. Jan van Zanen hosted the yearly reception for members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of international organizations and members of the Royal Household at the Museum Beelden aan Zee (Sculptures by the Sea) in The Hague on November 16^th, 2023. 

Mayor van Zanen received his distinguished guests in yet another museum this year, Beelden aan Zee nestled within the dunes of Scheveningen, designed by Dutch architect Wim Quist, shaped like a beautiful shell, and dedicated exclusively to contemporary sculpture. During the reception, the guests had the opportunity to discover the sculptures of Tom Claassen, mainly known for his gigantic animals in public space, which formed an impressive backdrop to the speeches of both the mayor of the Hague and the director of the museum, Ms. Brigitte Bloksma. 

Mayor van Zanen stressed two main points: the need, as a collective to maintain the monumental buildings in the Hague and to join forces in becoming climate neutral. The Hague has set as goal the end of 2023 to do so.
And secondly the role of the Hague as city of peace and justice, urging dialogue and the need to “remain committed to a peaceful and just world”. 

Quote: ”As your mayor, the mayor of the international city of peace and justice, I strive to do the same and keep my door open for the wide range of opinions and ideas from all your backgrounds”.
He also reminded us that the Hague will be celebrating in 2024 the 125th anniversary of the Peace Conference that heralded the birth of the United Nations, which, just as NATO, is dedicated to peace in the world.
